Patented Production Process

Ideal surface roughness & maximized fracture resistance

The revolutionary production process invented for the manufacture of Patent™ Implants creates a highly specialized implant topography that excels in tissue integration, while maximizing fracture resistance.

Together with leading scientists and highly experienced material experts, Zircon Medical has mastered the complex process of manufacturing zirconia implants using a revolutionary process that is protected by numerous patents and that is unique across the entire dental implant industry. Only through this process can an ideal surface roughness (Ra = 5,7 µm) be created for successful osseointegration but also the perfect surface topography for soft-tissue attachment without compromising the long-term strength of the implant. Patent™ Implants are manufactured in two exclusive production plants in Bavaria in Germany. In the first step of production, a blank made from isostatically pressed zirconia powder is milled to form using state-of-the-art milling machines to create the length, diameter, and geometry of the desired implant. Thereafter, the implant body is thoroughly cleaned before its endosteal portion is sand-blasted in order to create its high surface roughness and its hydrophilic and osteoconductive properties. Following sand-blasting, every single implant is meticulously checked under a microscope to ensure that it is up to the exceptional production standard Zircon Medical Management has dedicated itself to deliver with every product. In the subsequent sintering stage, the implant body is hardened, it reaches its final size and ideal toughness, and process-induced microcracks that might have originated from surface treatment are eliminated, leading to an outstanding degree of fracture resistance of the final product. Additionally, as a result of the sintering process, which has been designed for a maximum degree of energy efficiency, the final implants are one hundred percent free from germs or any other undesired residues which might have originated from surface treatment.

Science proves this revolutionary production process right: In an experimental preclinical study, unmatched osseointegration success of Patent™ Implants was reported, with bone-to-implant contact of over 70% after only four weeks of healing, which the authors trace back to their unique surface properties. In a prospective clinical study, on the other hand, the authors reported no fractures for the entire cohort of Patent™ Implants investigated after more than 9 years.
