Bone-level implants necessitate using a transgingival component, which means there will be a microscopic gap between the subgingival and transgingival components close to the bone crest. The micro-movements between the components aren’t conducive to tissue healing, and the micro-gaps may also lead to bacterial colonization, increasing the risk of infections. This is avoided with a transgingival implant since there is no micro-gap close to the bone crest.
