Prevention of Peri-implantitis

Long-term studies report no case after 9 and 12 years

Scientific long-term studies prove that the Patent™ Implant is able to minimize the risk of biological late-term complications – with no single case of peri-implantitis recorded after 9 and 12 years of function.

Anywhere between 10 and 50% of integrated implants show signs of peri-implantitis after ten years of function. The Patent™ Dental Implant System was specifically designed to overcome this challenge which is associated with conventionally screw-based dental implants and which has plagued patients, dentists, and the dental implant industry for decades. The Patent™ Implant was conceived with a soft-tissue-level design that moves the bacteria-prone micro-gap away from the crestal bone, and out of the subgingival zone. Studies have shown that harmful bacteria can penetrate the subgingival micro-gap of traditional screw-based dental implants and, in turn, accumulate inside the prosthetic implant-abutment interface, which leads to peri-implant inflammation as a result. The crown margin of the healed Patent™ Implant, on the other hand, is level with the free gingival margin and therefore in a region easily accessible for home hygiene and maintenance. This greatly reduces the risk of bacteria-induced inflammation of the peri-implant soft and hard tissue over the long term. Additionally, as a result of the ideal transgingival surface properties and the incredibly tissue-friendly zirconia, a veritable sealing of the soft tissues occurs around Patent™ Implants, which prevents harmful bacteria in the oral cavity from penetrating past the implant into the peri-implant tissues and contributing to the development of peri-implantitis.

This is not just another promise: In clinical long-term studies at the University of Düsseldorf and the University of Graz, none of the Patent™ Implants investigated showed signs of peri-implantitis – even after 12 years in function.
